Flu Vaccination

Please see below important information from the National Immunisation Office for the Influenza and and Pneumococcal vaccinations. As always we will be be part of this national campaign and will again be provding dedicated Flu vaccination clinics to improve the service for patients.

For all eligible patients (over 65s or with those with chronic medical conditions - see list below) we will be providing the free Flu vaccine as usual.  If you would like to book in please contact reception in person, via phone or via email (reception@errigalsurgery.ie) and you will get a prompt reply with an appointment time.
 
The clinics are scheduled for Tuesdays and Fridays and for a period of time these will be exclusively for Flu vaccinations only.

How safe is flu vaccine?

Seasonal flu vaccines have been given for more than 60 years to millions of people worldwide. Reactions are generally mild and serious side effects are very rare. The seasonal flu vaccines cannot give you the flu.

 

Who should get seasonal flu vaccine?

Vaccination is strongly recommended for;

• Persons aged 65 and over,

• Those with a long-term medical condition such as diabetes, heart or lung disease,

• People whose immune system is impaired due to disease or treatment,

• Persons with a body mass index (BMI) over 40,

• Pregnant women (can be given at any stage of pregnancy),

• Residents of nursing homes and other long stay institutions,

• Healthcare workers,

• Carers,

• People with regular close contact with poultry,




Cost of Flu vaccination

GMS Patients
  • GMS Over 65s - Free
  • GMS Underlying Medical Condition - Free
  • Other eligible categories (Carers etc see link below) - Free
Private Patients
  • Private Over 65s or those with an Underlying Medical Condition are entitled to a Free vaccination, however, the cost of administering is not covered by the state and as such a Nurse administration fee will apply which is a discounted price of €15 for patients of the surgery.
  • Contact reception for further details.
  • Private patients who simply wish to vaccinate against the Flu, the discounted cost is €25 including both vaccine and adminstering it.
The cost of the Pneumococcal vaccination for those not eligible for the free vaccine nor free administration is available on request.
